An overnight Russian drone strike in Odesa has killed a woman and set a residential building on fire, according to regional authorities, marking another deadly escalation in the ongoing Ukraine war.

Odesa Residential Building Set Ablaze

The governor of the southern Ukrainian region, Oleg Kiper, confirmed on Saturday that the attack ignited a fire in a residential property.

“The fire was quickly extinguished by rescue workers. Unfortunately, a woman was killed in the attack,” Kiper said in a statement posted on Telegram.

He added that explosions from the drone strike shattered windows in nearby buildings, causing further damage across the neighborhood.

Odesa, a strategic Black Sea port city, has frequently been targeted in Russian aerial assaults, including missile and drone strikes on civilian infrastructure.

655 Strikes Reported in Zaporizhzhia Region
In northeastern Ukraine, authorities reported an intense barrage of attacks in the Zaporizhzhia region over the past 24 hours.

Regional military chief Ivan Fedorov said at least one person was killed and three others wounded.

“Over the last 24 hours, the invaders carried out 655 strikes on 41 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region,” Fedorov stated.

The attacks underscore the continuing intensity of the conflict, with civilian areas once again bearing the brunt of the violence.

Ukraine War in Focus at Munich Summit

The latest deadly strikes come as global leaders gather in Munich to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine and coordinate further military and diplomatic support.

According to a German government source, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met on Friday to discuss Ukraine, the status of negotiations with Russia, and continued military assistance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been in Munich since Friday, is expected to address the summit and hold talks with key allies. No Russian officials were invited to attend the high-level discussions.
