FCT Area Council Poll: Wike Pledges Support Only for Tinubu-Backed Candidates

Abuja, February 15, 2026 – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision in the upcoming FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February 21. Wike emphasized that his support transcends political party lines.

Speaking at Senator Sandy Onor’s 60th birthday celebration in Abuja on Saturday night, Wike said:

“We have the FCT Area Council election coming up on February 21, and I have a duty to support any candidate that supports President Tinubu to win. It is also my duty to ensure that any candidate who is not supporting Tinubu does not win in the election, and I owe no apology on my stand.”

Wike described Onor as a credible ally and trustworthy friend, praising his consistent support even in times of difficulty.

The celebrant, Senator Sandy Onor, born February 14, 1966, in Ikom, Cross River State, was celebrated for his decades of scholarship, leadership, and public service. According to Prof. Anthony Eyang, Onor’s journey—from the University of Calabar to the Nigerian Senate and local politics—reflects a life committed to learning, leadership, and societal advancement.

Other dignitaries at the event lauded Onor’s contributions:

Senator Philip Aduda called the event a thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness in Onor’s life.

Former Benue Governor, Samuel Otom, described Onor as an “icon” and a man fit for leadership.

Former AGF, Chief Kalu Agabi (SAN), praised Onor’s courage and intelligence, noting his respect for the constitution.

Prof. Dave Imbua, Head of History at the University of Calabar, unveiled a Festschrift in Onor’s honor, with contributions totaling N50 million.

In his address, Onor reflected on his 60th year, emphasizing excellence, character, and the importance of divine guidance. He thanked his family, friends, and supporters, acknowledging their role in his journey.
