Wofai Fada: Why I Avoid Roles That Can Cause Marital Problems

Nollywood actress and comedian Wofai Fada has revealed why she deliberately turns down certain movie roles, saying she prioritises her marriage and family over controversial scripts that could spark misunderstandings.

In a candid interview, the entertainer shared insights into her Valentine’s Day traditions, marriage philosophy, financial stability in relationships, and the expansion of her restaurant brand, JustAfang, to Abuja.

Valentine’s Day: Creating Experiences, Not Just Romance

For Wofai Fada, Valentine’s Day is less about personal indulgence and more about creating memorable experiences for others.

She explained that over the years, the day has been dedicated to serving guests at her restaurant — planning special Valentine’s menus, hosting romantic dinners, and even organising surprise proposals.

According to her, some of the most memorable moments have involved couples getting engaged at her restaurant, complete with love songs and live performances by invited artistes.

“We enjoy ourselves by seeing others enjoy themselves,” she said.

Private Romance After Valentine’s Day

While she spends February 14 catering to others, Wofai and her husband prefer to celebrate their own love privately after the holiday rush.

The couple typically books a hotel room for a romantic dinner, choosing to relax and enjoy being served instead. She clarified that such outings are part of their regular routine and not exclusively tied to Valentine’s Day.

JustAfang Expansion: Abuja vs Lagos Valentine Culture

This year’s celebration is particularly significant as JustAfang recently opened a new branch in Abuja.

Wofai noted the cultural difference between Lagos and Abuja customers, describing Lagos residents as more outgoing, while Abuja tends to be more laid-back.

She recalled that last year, a customer proposed at the Lagos branch — a moment that underscored how Valentine’s Day can create lifelong memories.

“Marriage Without Money Is Risky”

Speaking on relationships and financial stability, Wofai stressed that money plays a crucial role in sustaining marriages, especially where children are involved.

Drawing from her childhood experiences, she explained that financial strain can deeply affect both couples and their children.

“Relationship without money, or marriage without money… if the couple doesn’t survive it, the kids will suffer.”

Her comments highlight the growing conversation around financial stability in marriage and long-term partnerships.

Why She Rejects Certain Movie Roles

Addressing misconceptions about relationships in the entertainment industry, Wofai dismissed assumptions that on-screen romance reflects real-life affairs.

She revealed that she has intentionally rejected movie roles that could create unnecessary tension in her marriage.

“People think that because you act in love scenes, something is happening off-screen. That’s not true.”

As a mother, she says protecting her family’s peace is more important than accepting every acting opportunity.

From Heartbreak to Career Focus

Reflecting on her past, the actress admitted she once prioritised love over her career. After experiencing heartbreak, she shifted her focus and began investing more intentionally in her professional growth.

That turning point, she said, helped shape her current balance between love and ambition.

Learning to Let Go and Embrace Femininity

Wofai also spoke about personal growth within marriage, revealing she had to unlearn certain habits — particularly the need to always be in control.

By allowing her husband to lead, she says she found more joy in her femininity and partnership.

Is Love Found or Built?

Using a flower as an analogy, Wofai described love as something that must first be found, then nurtured.

“If you don’t water it, if you don’t give it the right nutrients, how will it blossom?”

She added that while love at first sight may work for some, she now values meaningful conversations and shared direction over physical attraction alone.
