Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has resumed training after spending months on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury, sparking excitement among fans and raising hopes of a competitive return.
The 25-year-old forward shared a video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, showing himself performing leg exercises in the gym. In the post, he wrote in pidgin English: “Help me post this one too, I dey training.”
The update quickly drew supportive reactions from fans eager to see the Super Eagles star back in action.
Knee Surgery in Austria
Boniface underwent surgery in January after being diagnosed with a knee contusion. His club, Werder Bremen, confirmed at the time that he would be ruled out for several months.
According to the club’s statement, the striker had surgery in Innsbruck, Austria, under the supervision of renowned knee specialist Christian Fink following detailed medical examinations.
The Bundesliga side said the procedure was necessary to address complications related to the injury, which had kept him out of action for an extended period.
Injury Setbacks and AFCON Absence
Boniface’s injury troubles date back to November 2024, with multiple setbacks affecting his momentum. One of the biggest blows was missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after suffering a major abductor injury on the eve of the tournament.
He was also unavailable for Werder Bremen’s first game of 2026 against Borussia Dortmund, as rehabilitation complications delayed his return.
During his recovery, Boniface opened up emotionally on social media, revealing he had been “putting on a fake smile for over a year,” while expressing faith and gratitude to God amid the challenges.
Strong Form Before Injury
Before the injury setbacks, Boniface was enjoying an impressive run of form. The Nigerian forward recorded eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances, underlining his importance to Werder Bremen’s attacking setup.
With training now resumed, attention shifts to when he will make his competitive return — a development that could significantly boost both his club and Nigeria’s attacking options.
