An All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter has been cautioned for spraying naira notes during a live performance by popular Hausa musician Dauda Rarara at President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Adamawa State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, has reignited conversations around naira abuse and Nigeria’s strict enforcement of currency laws.
Naira Spraying Incident During Performance
During the performance, an unidentified woman dressed in APC attire reportedly approached the singer in excitement and sprayed about three naira notes in the presence of the President.
She was immediately cautioned, underscoring the Federal Government’s ongoing campaign against the misuse of the naira at public and social events.
Money spraying, stepping on currency, or using naira notes as props is prohibited under Nigerian law.
CBN Act and Clean Note Policy
Under Section 21 of the CBN Act, acts such as spraying or mutilating the naira are illegal and punishable by law. The Central Bank of Nigeria has repeatedly warned Nigerians against currency abuse through its Clean Note Policy.
