The law firm representing Davido’s estranged partner, Sophia Momodu, has issued a strong warning to the singer and his supporters amid rising tensions over their ongoing child custody case in Lagos.
Legal Team Condemns Social Media Attacks
In a statement released Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors condemned what it described as “inflammatory public statements” directed at its partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, following her role in the custody proceedings at a Lagos State court.
The firm stressed that the matter is sub judice, meaning it remains before a court of competent jurisdiction and must be decided strictly on evidence and law, not public opinion.
According to the statement, threats or harassment aimed at legal practitioners for performing their professional duties could undermine the foundation of justice.
“If legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions or testing evidence, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled,” the firm stated.
Davido’s Emotional Reaction in Court
The warning followed a series of emotional posts by Davido last Friday, where he expressed frustration over remarks allegedly made during cross-examination concerning his deceased son.
In a widely shared Instagram post, the Afrobeats star described the lawyer’s conduct as insensitive and claimed he had “beaten” her in court.
The controversy quickly escalated online, triggering backlash against the lawyer involved.
Tosin Bee Dragged Into Controversy
During the online fallout, Davido mistakenly mentioned gospel singer Tosin Bee, leading to harassment on the artiste’s social media platforms.
Tosin Bee promptly clarified that it was a case of mistaken identity, expressing sympathy while distancing himself from the legal dispute.
Lawyer Restricts Social Media Access
Amid the backlash, Enedah reportedly set her social media accounts to private, limiting public access.
Punuka Attorneys reiterated their commitment to protecting the integrity and safety of legal practitioners and called on the Nigerian Bar Association and legal professionals worldwide to condemn actions that could interfere with judicial proceedings.
The firm warned that it would pursue “every lawful measure” to resist intimidation and safeguard the administration of justice.
Davido Withdraws Joint Custody Case
In a fresh update shared on X (formerly Twitter), Davido confirmed he would be withdrawing the custody case. He clarified that he had sought joint custody, not full custody, of his daughter.
“I never asked for full custody. I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost, but Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
The singer added that he decided to discontinue the case following what he described as a “lowest blow” in court, referencing discussions about his deceased son.
Earlier reports indicated that Davido had filed an originating motion at the Lagos State High Court seeking joint custody of his daughter.
