The organizers of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament have officially opened registration for Season 3, with divisional qualifiers scheduled to kick off in April across all five divisions of Lagos State.
During a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, the roadmap for the 2026 season was unveiled, highlighting significant player empowerment initiatives beyond the football pitch. The tournament aims not only to elevate the standard of street soccer but also to equip players with modern skills for life beyond sports.
To participate in this year’s competition, teams must be affiliated with the Lagos State Football Association through their respective divisional football associations. Registration opens Wednesday, February 18, via the official tournament website: www.spires5aside.ng. Notably, the tournament has removed previous age restrictions, allowing broader participation from emerging and seasoned players alike.
Season 3 will continue the Tech-Meet-Sports initiative introduced in 2025, which trains players in cutting-edge tech skills alongside football development. Collaborations with technology professionals will offer training in artificial intelligence, coding, machine learning, and graphic design, helping athletes diversify their career prospects.
The tournament’s initiator, Bankole Alibay, who spoke virtually from the United States, expressed optimism about the new season:
“We are excited about every edition of the tournament. You can rest assured that Season 3 will surpass what we have done in the past in all ramifications.”
Last year’s champions, White Tigers of Lagos Island, claimed the N5 million prize in the 2025 edition, setting a high benchmark for upcoming teams. Organizers are confident that the 2026 season will build on these successes, combining competitive football with life-changing opportunities for players across Lagos State.
