Ramadan, Lent 2026: Ademola Adeleke Reduces Work Hours for Osun Civil Servants

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in official working hours for civil servants in the state in observance of the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.

The directive, which takes effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026, was announced as part of the state government’s welfare measures to support workers during the religious season. The approval was conveyed in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods.”

New Closing Time for Osun Civil Servants

According to the circular, public servants in Osun State are to close work by 2:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and 1:00 pm on Fridays throughout the fasting period. The adjustment applies only during Ramadan and Lent 2026.

Governor Adeleke described the move as a compassionate gesture to enable workers devote more time to prayers, reflection, and spiritual activities. He noted that the period is significant for both Muslims and Christians and stressed the importance of promoting peace and unity across the state.

The governor further emphasized that the reduced work hours would allow public servants to pray for the continued peace and tranquillity of Osun State, especially as preparations intensify for the forthcoming gubernatorial election later this year.

Essential Services Exempted

However, the directive excludes essential service providers, particularly medical personnel and other workers engaged in life-saving duties. Their schedules remain unchanged due to the critical nature of their responsibilities.

Governor Adeleke has directed political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government councils, and Local Council Development Authorities to ensure strict compliance and wide publicity of the new work-hour arrangement.
