The Ogun State Police Command has announced plans to arrest and prosecute TikTok user Mirabel after she admitted that her earlier rape allegation was false.
Mirabel reportedly confessed during a viral phone conversation with social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM), admitting that parts of her initial story were untrue. In the audio shared online, she said:
“Yes, sir, please help me, I am very sorry.”
She also revealed that she created a threatening TikTok account herself and cited drug use as a factor influencing her false posts.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and senior officers were present at the hospital where Mirabel is receiving treatment. She will be taken into custody upon discharge and charged in court.
“The DPO and senior officers are at the hospital. Once discharged, she will be taken into custody and charged. The essence is to serve as a deterrent to others,” the source said.
Mirabel had previously claimed she was attacked and raped by a stranger in her Ogijo apartment, sparking outrage on TikTok and across social media. The allegations prompted calls for urgent action against sexual violence.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that the Commissioner of Police directed the Ibafo Division to reach out to Mirabel immediately. She was taken to a medical facility for assessment and later referred for extensive care due to her fragile condition.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed the woman’s discharge but noted the incident occurred in Ogun State and had been referred to the appropriate authorities.
The Ogun State Police Command continues to review the case and will issue an official update in due course.
