The Independent National Electoral Commission has received commendation from political stakeholders following the peaceful and credible conduct of the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections in Abuja.
Julius Adamu, immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm and former chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, praised INEC after casting his vote at Polling Unit 008, Katampe Village Square.
Speaking with journalists, Adamu described the voting process as orderly, transparent and calm, noting the absence of disputes or security concerns at the polling centre.
“INEC has done well. The atmosphere is peaceful, and people are voting freely for candidates of their choice,” he said.
Adamu disclosed that although he initially contested the chairmanship under the PDP platform, he stepped down after consultations with party leaders. He subsequently threw his support behind the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in his ward, Joshua Musa, citing the need for unity, progress and grassroots development in the Area Council.
He further commended INEC officials for the early arrival of electoral materials across polling units he monitored, expressing optimism that the peaceful atmosphere would be sustained until the close of voting.
Party agents from other political parties echoed similar sentiments. Glory Onuoha, Supervising Agent of the Zenith Labour Party, described the election as credible and well-coordinated, urging residents to maintain peace throughout the process.
Similarly, Ilesanmi Adegoke, agent of the New Nigeria People Party, praised INEC and security agencies for professionalism and effective coordination at Katampe Village Square.
The FCT Area Council elections are being monitored across the six area councils, with steady voter turnout recorded under tight security and a generally calm environment, reinforcing public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
