The Obidient Movement has raised fresh concerns over an alleged malfunction of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IREV) during the ongoing Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, heightening tensions around electoral transparency in Abuja.
In a statement titled “Alert from the Obidient Movement Headquarters,” the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, claimed that results reportedly uploaded from several polling units were not reflecting on the IREV server.
According to the group, although the IREV platform appeared active, uploaded results were allegedly not visible to the public in real time. The development, they said, raises concerns about the credibility and transparency of the FCT polls.
FCT Elections Seen as Key Political Test
The Federal Capital Territory elections are being closely watched, as voters across the six area councils — Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali — elect chairmen and councillors. Political observers view the exercise as a significant test of grassroots political strength ahead of future national elections.
The Obidient Movement urged supporters and concerned Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding throughout the collation process. The group encouraged citizens to peacefully observe proceedings at designated collation centres, including Area 10 and Karu in Abuja, while ensuring they have accurate polling unit results for verification.
IREV and Electoral Transparency
The IREV portal, introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, is designed to enhance transparency by allowing members of the public to view polling unit results uploaded directly from the field.
As of press time, INEC had not issued an official response to the allegations of a glitch. The situation has intensified public scrutiny, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments as collation continues across the FCT.
