Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have intercepted a suspected gunrunner, recovering 969 rounds of ammunition during a targeted operation in Taraba State.
According to a Saturday statement posted on X, the arrest occurred on February 21, 2026, at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area. The statement, signed by Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, emphasized the Army’s commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring peace in Taraba.
The operation was guided by credible intelligence. Troops on sentry duty flagged down an Audi vehicle with registration RBC 798 DV (Abuja). During the search, they arrested Mr. Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old man from Numan Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
Recovered items included:
2 AK-47 rifles
197 empty magazines
250 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition
700 rounds of 9mm Parabellum ammunition
19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
₦2,440,000 in cash
Multiple ID and ATM cards, mobile phones, power bank
Assorted personal items, including perfumes and local charms
The Army confirmed that the suspect and all recovered items are in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Chukwuemeka Akaliro, commended the troops for their alertness and diligence, highlighting the brigade’s ongoing mission to eradicate criminality and safeguard lives and property in Taraba State.
