The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mohammed Kasim, has emerged victorious in the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local government polls held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Announcing the results in the early hours of Sunday, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer Philip Akpen confirmed that Kasim secured 22,165 votes, defeating his closest rival, Yahaya Shehu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 17,788 votes. Akpen described the election as peaceful and smoothly conducted, adding:
“I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Gwagwalada chairmanship. Mohammed Kasim of PDP, having met all legal requirements, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 1,687 votes, while other parties, including ADC, SDP, and NNPP, shared the remaining votes.
