Alex Iwobi Downplays Fulham’s European Qualification Ambition After 3-1 Win at Sunderland

Alex Iwobi has played down growing speculation about Fulham F.C. qualifying for European competition after their impressive 3-1 Premier League victory over Sunderland A.F.C. at the Stadium of Light.

The Nigeria international delivered a match-winning performance, scoring once and providing an assist to help Fulham secure maximum points away from home. The victory pushes Fulham into the top half of the Premier League table and strengthens talk of a potential European qualification push this season.

Iwobi showed composure and intelligence to finish off a swift counter-attack, calmly slotting past Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs after receiving a precise through ball from Harry Wilson. He also played a key role in Fulham’s opener, delivering a well-taken corner that was powerfully headed home by Raúl Jiménez, who went on to score twice in the encounter.

Despite the growing excitement among fans, Iwobi remained cautious when speaking to Sky Sports after the match.

“We take it step by step. Onto the next game, we got the three points which was the aim. We take it game by game and see where we end up at the end of the season,” he said.

Iwobi also acknowledged the challenge posed by Sunderland’s home form and the condition of the pitch, stressing the importance of grinding out away victories to climb the league standings.

Jimenez praised Fulham’s improved second-half display, noting that the team managed the game better after the interval and capitalised on their chances.

Iwobi’s latest contribution takes his tally to three goals and three assists in 21 Premier League appearances this season, underlining his growing influence as Fulham continue their steady rise in England’s top flight.
