The Kebbi State Government has lauded the Nigerian Army and the Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma for successfully repelling coordinated attacks by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Maiyama and Shanga Local Government Areas.
A statement issued on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris described the military operations as “a clear demonstration of gallantry, professionalism, and renewed tactical superiority” by security forces combating armed groups across the state.
According to security sources, troops engaged the bandits in Maiyama LGA after receiving actionable intelligence about an impending attack. Several assailants were neutralized, while others fled.
In Shanga LGA, additional bandit elements were eliminated, significantly weakening the network responsible for recent cross-border raids, cattle rustling, and attacks on rural communities.
The Lakurawa group, which operates along Nigeria’s northwestern border regions, has been linked to sporadic violence and insecurity in local farming and trading corridors.
The recent military successes are part of intensified clearance operations aimed at dismantling bandit hideouts and restoring public confidence.
Governor Idris praised the collaborative efforts between the state government and security agencies. He stated, “These successful operations in Maiyama and Shanga clearly show that our security forces are on top of the situation. We salute their courage and sacrifice in defending our communities.”
The governor also highlighted that consistent provision of logistics, operational vehicles, communication equipment, and welfare support has strengthened field operations.
“We will continue to provide our security agencies with the resources, intelligence, and community cooperation needed to eradicate banditry in Kebbi State. The safety of our people remains our highest priority,” he added.
Kebbi State continues to invest in security infrastructure and intelligence-sharing mechanisms, resulting in more rapid deployments and patrols across vulnerable areas.
Governor Idris urged residents to remain vigilant and report credible information to security agencies.
The renewed offensives in Maiyama and Shanga LGAs mark a decisive phase in stabilizing affected communities and securing critical agricultural and trading routes across the state.
