Truck Crushes LASTMA Officer, Two Motorcyclists to Death in Lagos

A tragic road accident at Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday morning claimed the lives of a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officer and two commercial motorcyclists after a cement-laden truck reportedly lost control and rammed into them.

The fatal crash occurred around 9 am at the busy junction, a major traffic hub in Badagry. According to eyewitness accounts, the truck was approaching the roundabout at high speed when the driver suddenly lost control, swerved off its lane, and crushed the victims.

The LASTMA officer was said to be actively controlling traffic when the truck veered toward him. The two motorcyclists were reportedly waiting to pick up passengers when they were struck. All three victims died on the spot.

The incident immediately caused heavy traffic gridlock around the Badagry axis, prompting the rapid deployment of security and traffic officials.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and additional LASTMA personnel were mobilised to manage the situation and restore order.

Authorities confirmed that the truck driver was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody. The vehicle involved in the fatal accident has been impounded for further investigation, while the remains of the victims were evacuated to a hospital mortuary.

The Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, CSP Folajimi Agosile, confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court upon conclusion of investigations.

The FRSC unit commander in the area also attributed the crash to loss of control and advised motorists to exercise caution, especially around busy intersections.

The tragedy comes just days after another fatal road accident was reported in Lagos, raising fresh concerns about road safety, reckless driving, and enforcement of traffic regulations across the state.
