Nine victims of a recent terror attack in Dorowa Babuje community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, have been laid to rest in a solemn mass burial attended by grieving families, religious leaders, and residents.
The tragic ceremony reflected growing concerns over insecurity in the region, as tensions continue to mount following repeated attacks on rural communities.
Church Leaders Condemn Killings
The burial service was officiated by Ezekiel Dachomo, Chairman of the Regional Church Council of the Church of Christ in Nigeria.
He condemned the killings and described the attack as a devastating blow to the Christian community.
Dachomo emphasized the urgent need for the protection of Christian communities facing persecution.
He also called for prayers for widows and families who lost breadwinners, urging residents to forgive the perpetrators despite the pain.
Youth Group Demands Security Reforms
Solomon Mwantiri, National President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, expressed frustration over what he described as ignored early warnings before the attack.
According to him, nine victims were buried in Barkin Ladi, while two others are scheduled for burial in Jol.
Mwantiri called for the relocation of Operation Enduring Peace security personnel and demanded stricter enforcement of the ban on open grazing, which he alleged has contributed to recurring violence in the area.
He also urged authorities to intensify surveillance, particularly in suspected flashpoints.
Government Reacts, Urges Calm
Plateau State Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change, and Mineral Development, Peter Gwom, condemned the killings and appealed for public cooperation in tackling terrorism.
He advised residents to take precautionary measures while security agencies work to restore peace.
The mass burial comes amid broader security concerns across Nigeria. Earlier this month, over 160 people were reportedly killed in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, highlighting the escalating security crisis.
Residents continue to demand justice, enhanced protection, and decisive government action to prevent further bloodshed.
