Grassroots political mobilisation in Abia North has gathered momentum as a pro-APC group steps up ward-level engagement ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The Concerned Progressives of Arochukwu and Ohafia (CPAO) has launched an extensive campaign drive across Arochukwu and Ohafia Local Government Areas of Abia State in support of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ifeanyi Ogbonna.
The mobilisation covers key communities including Ihechiowa, Ututu, Abam, Abriba, and Nkporo, with coordinators embarking on door-to-door sensitisation and direct voter engagement.
The group says its strategy focuses on increasing voter registration through the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission to strengthen APC’s grassroots structure.
Speaking during a ward tour in Asaga, Ohafia LGA, the group’s General Secretary described Ogbonna as a consensus candidate with cross-party appeal and strong youth backing.
According to the organisers, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to address what they termed years of under-representation in the federal constituency.
Ogbonna’s proposed legislative agenda, unveiled during interactive sessions with residents, prioritises infrastructure development, improved education, job creation, enhanced security, and youth empowerment.
Supporters argue that these policy pillars align with the pressing socio-economic needs of Abia North.
Beyond the House of Representatives contest, the group also pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu as part of a broader APC consolidation strategy ahead of 2027.
The CPAO emphasised that its mobilisation efforts are voluntary and community-driven, stressing that members have not received financial inducements.
Political observers note that early grassroots engagement, voter registration drives, and sustained ward-level outreach could play a decisive role in shaping the Abia North House of Representatives race as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
