Acting IGP Olatunji Disu Arrives Aso Rock for Official Decoration

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for his formal decoration ceremony as Nigeria’s new police chief.

Disu was sighted at the Presidential Villa in Abuja at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, marking a significant leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.

His appointment follows the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Egbetokun’s Resignation Confirmed

The Presidency confirmed Egbetokun’s exit earlier in the day. According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu accepted the resignation after the former IGP submitted a letter citing pressing family considerations.

The announcement brings an end to Egbetokun’s tenure and clears the path for Disu’s elevation to the highest rank within the police hierarchy.

Leadership Transition in the Nigeria Police Force

Olatunji Disu’s decoration at Aso Rock formalizes his assumption of office as acting IGP.

Prior to this appointment, Disu served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, where he played key roles in law enforcement operations and internal security management.

Security analysts view this leadership change as a pivotal moment for the Nigeria Police Force, particularly amid ongoing national security concerns and police reform discussions.

The decoration ceremony symbolizes both continuity and a renewed mandate to strengthen public safety, crime prevention, and institutional discipline.

As Acting IGP Olatunji Disu steps into his new role, stakeholders across Nigeria will be watching closely to see how his leadership shapes policing strategies, internal reforms, and collaboration with other security agencies.

More details are expected to emerge following the official decoration ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
