Bayelsa Police Arrest Five Over Alleged Murder of Suspected Rapist

The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended five suspects in connection with the death of 38-year-old Samuel Ofiri, who was accused of allegedly raping a woman.

The victim’s body was discovered abandoned along Kakatar Road in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, confirmed the arrests, stating that police responded to a distress call on February 22, 2026, at around 3:30 PM.

Officers from Kolo Divisional Headquarters found Ofiri’s lifeless body and transported it to the Federal Medical Centre, Otuoke for autopsy.

According to the police, the five individuals arrested are:

Stanley Inemugha, 21 – Otakeme Community

Ipagaro Memidin, 21 – Otakeme Community

Kingsley Taribo, 25 – Otakeme Community

Boye Easter, 22 – Otakeme Community

Preye Timbiri, 40 – Otuoke Community

Preliminary investigations reveal that Ofiri was accused of raping a woman, after which he was taken to an apartment and allegedly tortured by the suspects, resulting in his death.

The suspects are currently under police investigation and will face legal charges.

Commissioner Edebor warned the public against jungle justice and mob violence, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

He reiterated that the police remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for both victims and accused persons.

Bayelsa State Police urges residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to prevent crime while maintaining peace in their communities.

This incident highlights the critical need for citizens to report criminal acts to police authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands, reinforcing the message that mob justice endangers society.
