A fire outbreak occurred early Thursday morning at the popular Opolo Furniture Market located between Opolo and Biogbolo in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, destroying goods and property worth millions of naira.
Eyewitnesses said the inferno started in the early hours of the day, engulfing several shops before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but traders lamented that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred at the market.
Although no casualties were reported as of press time, many business owners counted heavy losses as furniture items, building materials, and equipment were razed.
Residents have called on the Bayelsa State Government and emergency agencies to investigate the repeated fire incidents and provide lasting safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
