Nigerian Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage has unveiled the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, a new initiative designed to empower emerging African creatives through world-class music education, mentorship and industry access.
Announcing the project on social media, the award-winning singer declared that after building a global brand, it was time to invest in nurturing talent at home.
The foundation’s flagship project is a landmark partnership with Berklee College of Music, marking the institution’s first-ever programme in West Africa.
Berklee Intensive Music Programme in Lagos
Tagged “Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Programme,” the four-day training will take place in Lagos from April 23 to 26, 2026.
The fully funded initiative will train 100 emerging Nigerian music creators in areas such as music production, songwriting, harmony, ear training and sound engineering.
Participants will also gain practical knowledge in music publishing, copyright, and entertainment law—key components for building sustainable careers in the African music industry.
Savage emphasised that while Afrobeats has gained international recognition, the industry needs stronger structural support to remain competitive globally.
According to her, talent is widespread across Africa, but access to quality education and mentorship remains limited.
Expanding Opportunities for African Creatives
The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation will extend beyond vocalists and performers to support producers, composers, sound engineers and music business professionals.
By bridging the access gap, the initiative aims to strengthen Africa’s creative economy from within.
Outstanding participants in the Lagos intensive may be considered for future scholarships or online courses with Berklee in Boston, opening doors to long-term international opportunities.
Savage, who previously benefited from a scholarship at Berklee herself, credits structured education and global exposure for reshaping her understanding of the music business.
With this foundation, she is now focused on equipping the next generation of African creatives with the tools needed to compete on the world stage.
