President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.
The reappointment, which took effect on February 27, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Audi’s initial tenure, which began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, officially ended last Friday.
With this extension, President Tinubu has charged the NSCDC boss to reposition the corps to play a stronger role in Nigeria’s internal security framework.
The directive comes as the Nigeria Police refocuses efforts on combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country.
Renewed Mandate to Strengthen National Security
Audi is expected to resume duties immediately with a renewed mandate aimed at enhancing civil defence operations, protecting critical national assets, and supporting law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi has built a career marked by steady professional growth and academic excellence.
He began his journey in the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and rose through the ranks after completing his basic officer training in 1997.
Strong Academic and Professional Background
Audi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar, and a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University.
He also earned a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
His reappointment signals continuity in leadership at the NSCDC and reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security institutions amid evolving threats.
