Iran has established an interim leadership council following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, a move aimed at stabilizing the country during a period of escalating regional tensions.
Officials confirmed that Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been appointed as a member of the temporary leadership body tasked with overseeing Iran’s affairs until a new supreme leader is selected.
According to government authorities, the interim leadership council will include the country’s president and the head of the judiciary.
The council will govern the Islamic Republic while the Assembly of Experts prepares to elect a permanent successor.
Interim Leadership Structure Announced
The announcement was made by Mohsen Dehnavi, spokesman for the Expediency Discernment Council, who revealed that Ayatollah Arafi’s appointment forms part of the constitutional transition process following the supreme leader’s death.
The interim council is expected to coordinate national leadership, maintain government stability, and manage political and military developments during the transition period.
Iran Vows Retaliation After Khamenei’s Death
The death of Ali Khamenei reportedly occurred after coordinated strikes claimed by the United States and Israel.
Iranian leaders have described the incident as a serious escalation in regional conflict.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the killing, calling it a “declaration of war against Muslims,” and vowed that Iran would respond forcefully.
Security officials, including senior figure Ali Larijani, also warned that Iran would retaliate against both the United States and Israel.

Iran’s military said it launched air strikes targeting U.S. bases located in Iraq’s Kurdistan region and several locations in the Persian Gulf.

Air raid sirens were also reported in Jerusalem after Israeli defense systems detected missiles launched from Iran.
Explosions were heard across several Middle Eastern cities, including Dubai, Manama, and areas near Doha.

Officials in the Gulf region have urged Iran to avoid escalating the conflict with neighboring countries.
A senior official from the United Arab Emirates warned that expanding the war beyond its primary actors would be a dangerous miscalculation that could destabilize the entire Middle East.
