The Kano State Police Command has officially suspended the annual Tashe performance during Ramadan, citing mounting security concerns.

The popular cultural event, which traditionally attracts large crowds, has been temporarily halted to safeguard residents from potential criminal activities.

In a statement released by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command emphasized its commitment to maintaining public safety and order throughout the holy month.

The suspension was implemented in collaboration with the Kano State Government to prevent criminals from exploiting the festivities for crimes such as thuggery, handset snatching, and drug-related offenses.

“The suspension became necessary to deny hoodlums the opportunity to use the occasion as a cover to commit crimes,” the statement read.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against acts that could disrupt law and order.

He added, “Anyone found violating the law will face the full consequences, as the command has deployed adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful Ramadan period.”

Authorities also called on residents to cooperate with police and other security agencies to maintain the relative peace currently enjoyed across the state.

“We have taken proactive steps to curb criminal activities during Ramadan and wish the people of Kano State a peaceful and successful fasting period,” Bakori said.

The annual Tashe performance, known for its lively music, dance, and cultural displays, has been a highlight of Kano Ramadan festivities for years.

However, the police insist that public safety must take precedence over celebrations to prevent any untoward incidents.

Residents and festival-goers are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and adhere to safety guidelines throughout Ramadan.

The Kano Police Command has assured the public that all necessary security arrangements are in place to ensure the safety of citizens during the holy month.
