The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has intensified efforts to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities by 10% through proactive public enlightenment and community engagement programs.
In a landmark “Church Advocacy Programme” at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Umudim, Nnewi, FRSC officials engaged worshippers and local residents on crucial road safety practices.
Over 1,500 attendees participated in the initiative, underscoring the importance of faith-based collaboration in promoting safer roads.
Corps Commander Bridget Asekauno highlighted that the program aimed to enhance road safety consciousness, promote responsible road usage, and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Key topics included pedestrian safety, the importance of wearing crash helmets, risks of overloading vehicles, dangers of driving against traffic, underage driving, and the severe consequences of speeding and reckless driving.
“We encouraged motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians to embrace safe road culture and become ambassadors of road safety within their communities,” Asekauno said.
Rev. Father Daniel Ileka, officiating priest at the church, expressed gratitude for the FRSC’s impactful visit and pledged continued support in promoting road safety among congregants.
He also requested the establishment of a Special Marshal Unit for the church to further strengthen local safety efforts.
The program featured interactive sessions where attendees asked questions and received clear guidance on traffic rules and safety concerns.
Informative flyers and awareness materials were distributed to reinforce critical road safety messages.
The initiative reflects FRSC Anambra Sector’s commitment to a collaborative approach, partnering with religious institutions and local communities to foster safer roads across the state.
The successful engagement in Nnewi sets a precedent for similar church and community outreach programs aimed at reducing accidents and promoting responsible road behavior.
