Police authorities in Ebonyi State have confirmed the abduction of three siblings by a suspected female tenant in the Nwezenyi Village area of the Igbeagu Community.

The disturbing incident has heightened fears about rising cases of child abduction in the state.

The victims, identified as Favour Okeoha, Obinna Okeoha, and Kamso Okeoha, were reportedly taken on Saturday while their parents were away from home.

According to community sources, the suspected kidnapper had recently rented an apartment in the compound where the children lived.

Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident in Abakaliki, stating that law enforcement officers have begun investigations to locate the missing children and arrest the suspect.

Residents of the community said the woman had only moved into the apartment a few days before the alleged kidnapping.

A neighbour explained that the suspect rented the room on Thursday and moved in the next day.

According to the resident, she stayed for just one day before the children disappeared on Saturday, raising suspicion among other tenants.

The neighbour added that many residents did not even know the woman’s identity before the incident occurred.

Another witness revealed that the suspect appeared friendly and attempted to build trust with neighbours.

She reportedly painted her room shortly after moving in and wrote the words “One Love” on the wall, possibly to create a positive impression among other tenants in the compound.

Meanwhile, the parents of the abducted siblings were not available for immediate comments as sympathisers gathered in the compound awaiting their return.

The shocking incident has left many residents of the Igbeagu community worried about the safety of children in the area.

Community members say the case highlights the urgent need for improved vigilance and stronger security measures.

Notably, this is not the first reported case of child abduction in the state this year.

In February 2026, three young children were also abducted from a residential compound in Nkwegu, further raising concerns over the growing trend of kidnappings targeting minors.

Police say efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted siblings and track down the suspect.
