Rivers Assembly Begins Screening of Fubara’s Commissioner Nominees

The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced preparations to screen nine commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara for appointment into the state executive council.

The development marks the first phase of rebuilding the state cabinet after the governor dismissed several members of his administration earlier in the year.

The list was formally acknowledged by the Assembly leadership, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

According to a special government announcement dated March 3, the nominees have been invited to submit the required documents ahead of their screening and confirmation process.

List of Fubara’s Commissioner Nominees

The nominees invited for screening include:

Professor Datonye Alasia

Mr Tonye Bellgam

Professor Temple Nwofor

Dr Peters Nwagor

Mrs Charity Deemua

Tamuno Williams

Mr Lekue Kenneth

Otonye Amachree

Amairigha Edward Hart

Each nominee has been directed to submit 40 copies of their curriculum vitae, academic credentials, and tax compliance evidence to the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The notice was signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr Emeka Amadi.

Cabinet Reshuffle Follows Dismissal of Commissioners

The nomination comes roughly three weeks after Governor Fubara dissolved part of his cabinet.

Eight commissioners who were not affected by a Supreme Court ruling were removed from office, alongside all special advisers.

Observers say the move was part of efforts to restructure the state executive council and align the administration following recent political developments in the state.

Political Tensions Ease in Rivers State

The latest development also comes after a reported reconciliation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The reconciliation reportedly followed intervention by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the prolonged political dispute in Rivers State.

The intervention also halted impeachment proceedings initiated by 27 lawmakers against the governor and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

Following the directive, Speaker Amaewhule confirmed that the impeachment process had been withdrawn.

The Rivers Assembly is expected to announce the official date for the screening and confirmation of the commissioner nominees in the coming days.
