2027 Elections: Makinde Asks Oyo Appointees to Publicly Declare Political Ambitions

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has directed political appointees in his administration who plan to contest elective offices in the 2027 Nigerian general elections to openly declare their intentions.

Makinde gave the directive during the Oyo State Government’s 2026 Iftar programme held at the Government House in Ibadan, urging aspirants to pursue their ambitions under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor explained that the announcement became necessary following speculation on social media that he had not granted approval for government officials to begin political campaigns, especially those seeking the governorship and other elective positions.

Makinde clarified that interested aspirants now have the freedom to publicly promote their ambitions.

According to him, any political appointee interested in contesting should openly display campaign materials and promote their ambitions without hesitation.

He also dismissed concerns about internal challenges within the PDP, assuring party members that such issues would not affect their political aspirations.

The governor added that aspirants could even include the party’s logo on their campaign billboards, stressing that there would be no consequences for doing so.

Makinde further assured potential candidates that they would receive his support, provided they remain loyal to the party and committed to the development and welfare of the people of Oyo State.

During the event, the governor also expressed appreciation to Muslim faithful in the state for their continuous prayers and support for his administration.

He noted that their cooperation had contributed significantly to the state’s progress and development.

The Iftar programme featured religious lectures and remarks from community leaders, who commended Makinde for promoting unity and maintaining strong relationships with religious groups across the state.

Several political leaders, traditional rulers, government officials, and religious scholars attended the gathering, where prayers were offered for the peace, stability, and continued development of Oyo State and Nigeria.

The governor’s directive is expected to shape early political preparations within the PDP in Oyo State as political activities gradually build toward the 2027 elections.
