Tinubu Approves 65 Ambassadorial Postings, Assigns Fani-Kayode to Germany and Omokri to Mexico

President Bola Tinubu

Bola Tinubu has approved the official posting of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to countries around the world, marking one of the largest diplomatic appointments in recent years.

The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the list includes 34 non-career ambassadors and 31 career diplomats.

Among the most notable appointments is former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who has been posted to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau has been assigned to China, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other high-profile diplomatic postings include former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, former Health Minister Isaac Adewole to Canada, and Senator Ita Enang to South Africa.

Additional appointments include Fatima Ajimobi to Austria, Mrs Lola Akande to Sweden, Joe-Kyari Okocha to Ireland, and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to the Philippines.

Paul Adikwu will represent Nigeria at the Holy See in Vatican City, while Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu has been posted to Israel.

The diplomatic list also includes several career ambassadors from the foreign service.

Among them are Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Shehu Barde to Ghana, and Ambassador Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia.

According to the Presidency, some host countries have already issued agrément, the formal diplomatic approval required before ambassadors can assume office.

For example, the United Kingdom has approved Aminu Dalhatu as High Commissioner, while France has accepted Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s envoy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will now begin an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate before their deployment.

The Senate had earlier confirmed all 65 nominees in December 2025 after screening by its Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Nigeria maintains diplomatic missions in more than 100 countries, and the new postings are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and international cooperation across key regions.
