Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has declared that the state has effectively become a “no-go area for opposition parties,” citing the scale of infrastructure development delivered by his administration in less than three years.
The governor made the statement while commissioning the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road in Oko Kingdom and inaugurating a network of roads in Asaba, located in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
According to Oborevwori, the level of development across the state has strengthened public support for his government.
He noted that during the 2023 governorship election, he secured victory in 21 out of Delta State’s 25 local government areas even before assuming office.
“Considering the progress we have made and the projects already completed, Delta State has become a no-go area for other political parties,” the governor said.
New Infrastructure Projects Boost Delta Economy
Oborevwori also announced the Phase Two expansion of the Oko road project, which has been awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited at a cost of ₦16.9 billion.
The project has a 24-month completion timeline, though the governor expressed confidence it would be delivered ahead of schedule.
The newly completed road is expected to significantly improve transportation and economic activity in the area.
For years, local farmers reportedly relied on alternative routes through neighbouring states to sell their produce due to poor road conditions.
With the road now operational, farmers can move goods more easily to markets, helping to increase income levels and improve rural livelihoods.
Flood Control and Urban Development in Asaba
In Asaba, the governor also commissioned the Amaechi Agusi Road and adjoining streets, including a drainage system designed to tackle persistent erosion and flooding that previously made the area difficult to access.
Oborevwori listed several other recently completed projects across the state, including a Government Technical College in Omadino and new faculty buildings at University of Delta, Agbor, and Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
The administration plans to commission additional projects in the coming weeks as part of its development agenda.
MORE Agenda Targets Youth and Women Empowerment
The governor reaffirmed that his administration’s MORE Agenda focuses on infrastructure, economic growth, and social empowerment.
New youth and women empowerment programmes are expected to be rolled out soon.
Officials also revealed that over 70 kilometres of roads have been completed or are currently under construction within the Delta State capital territory, along with more than 20 kilometres of drainage infrastructure aimed at improving urban resilience.
