Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on several military bases in Borno State, killing multiple insurgents and preventing the destruction of key security positions.
The intense overnight battle, which lasted more than five hours, occurred between late Thursday and early Friday across four locations — Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok.
The terrorists attempted to overrun the military formations but were met with strong resistance from Nigerian soldiers.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, the attacks began around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and continued until about 3:00 a.m. on Friday.
Troops reportedly maintained their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults, forcing the attackers into retreat after a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Military officials said the Nigerian forces carried out coordinated counterattacks supported by reinforcement teams from different operational sectors.
The troops also executed strategic flanking manoeuvres that disrupted the insurgents’ advance and forced them to withdraw in disarray.
During the battle, several high-ranking terrorist commanders, including key leaders often referred to as “Amirs,” were killed alongside many fighters.
In some areas, insurgents managed to breach parts of the defensive perimeter, but soldiers quickly launched counteroffensives and regained full control of the affected positions.
Air power also played a major role in the operation.
The Nigerian Air Force carried out multiple precision air strikes on fleeing terrorists and suspected hideouts, destroying enemy positions and weakening their operational capability.
Security sources said the ongoing military operation has continued with troops conducting clearance and exploitation missions in the affected communities.
During these operations, weapons, equipment and the bodies of several insurgents have been recovered.
However, the military confirmed that some soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation, including an officer who reportedly led his troops from the front during the battle.
The Nigerian military described their sacrifice as a testament to the dedication of the armed forces in defending the country and protecting civilians from terrorist threats.
The successful defense of the bases highlights the ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability across Nigeria’s North-East region.
