Suspected terrorists from Boko Haram have reportedly paraded about 300 abducted villagers from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State in a disturbing video circulating online.
The footage, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, shows dozens of armed insurgents escorting a large group of civilians believed to have been kidnapped during a recent attack on the community.
The attack reportedly took place around midnight on Wednesday in Ngoshe, a rural settlement in Gwoza, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes.
Many of the displaced villagers reportedly escaped to Pulka, where they have been sheltering in school buildings and open spaces after the assault.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the terrorists stormed the community in large numbers and attacked a nearby military base before abducting hundreds of residents.
The assault lasted several hours and left the community in panic before security forces responded.
In the 30-second video clip shared online, several insurgents are seen carrying sophisticated weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades, while waving their group’s black flag.
Some of the fighters also appeared to be dressed in Nigerian military uniforms as they escorted their leader past rows of abducted villagers seated on the ground.
Observers in the footage noted that the hostages were gathered along a narrow path while the armed fighters walked past them during what appeared to be one of the daily Islamic prayers.
Following the incident, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai was reportedly deployed to the area to repel the attackers.
Military operations forced the insurgents to retreat into nearby forest areas after the raid.
Reacting to the renewed wave of terror attacks, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu urged citizens not to give in to fear, assuring Nigerians that his administration was intensifying efforts to defeat terrorism and restore peace.
Speaking during an interfaith breaking of the fast with members of the armed forces and security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ending insurgency and safeguarding national unity.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria would ultimately overcome the forces threatening the country’s stability.
