Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is brimming with confidence as the Turkish giants prepare to face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Osimhen scored the decisive goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 Istanbul derby victory over Besiktas, ending the home side’s 18-match unbeaten run and strengthening their lead in the Turkish Super Lig.
His first-half header marked his 11th league goal of the season and extended his goal-contribution streak to eight consecutive matches, matching the best run of his career during his time at Napoli in 2023.
Speaking after the win, Osimhen emphasized Galatasaray’s determination ahead of their Champions League clash.
“Playing against a top team like Liverpool is an exciting challenge. We know our strengths and with the support of our fans, we aim to carry this momentum into the next game,” he said.
Osimhen has been in sensational form in Europe this season, recording seven goals and two assists in eight Champions League appearances, including the match-winning goal against Liverpool in the group stage.
The Nigerian international also underlined Galatasaray’s ambition to make a statement on the continental stage.
“We’ve dominated domestically, but now we want to compete with Europe’s best teams,” he said, recalling his discussions with the club president when he joined last summer for a record transfer fee.
Osimhen’s performances have not gone unnoticed.
Reports indicate that FC Barcelona are monitoring him as a potential signing should Robert Lewandowski depart, with his pace, power, and finishing skills fitting their attacking setup.
Other European clubs reportedly interested include Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Chelsea.
