National News – Hon. Fredrick Yeitiemone Agbedi, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the 10th National Assembly, has reacted to the recent Appeal Court judgment concerning the party’s leadership, describing the ruling as a necessary step toward resolving internal disputes within the party.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with National News on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Agbedi, who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, welcomed the court’s decision to annul the previous convention results, stressing that the judiciary remains the final arbiter in any democratic dispute.

Following the ruling, which vacates the current executive positions, the lawmaker explained that the Board of Trustees (BoT)—which he described as the “conscience of the party”—alongside statutory members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), will take charge of managing the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a fresh convention.

“For me, this is not a problem,” Agbedi said. “It gives us clarity of purpose. It puts to rest the disputes over the legitimacy of the executive and gives us an opportunity to organize a fresh convention.”

He noted that the PDP remains a foundational political party that has contributed significantly to the development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria, urging members not to lose faith in the party despite the current legal challenges.

The lawmaker also called on Bayelsans and loyal party members across the state’s eight local government areas and 105 wards to take advantage of the ongoing PDP e-registration exercise, emphasizing that party membership is the gateway to participating in the party’s internal democratic processes.

“This is the party that gave the presidency to Goodluck Jonathan,” he said. “We cannot abandon it. I urge everyone to register so they can vote and be voted for.”

Speaking on his political future, Agbedi confirmed that he has set his sights on the Bayelsa West Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections, revealing that he will not seek re-election to the House of Representatives.

“I have done my best in the House of Representatives,” he said. “Everyone deserves growth and advancement. I am moving higher to the Senate to represent Bayelsa West Senatorial District.”

Agbedi assured supporters that despite the present legal hurdles, the PDP remains “alive and kicking” and is capable of overcoming its internal challenges ahead of the next electoral cycle.
