National News – Nigerian strikers Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen delivered standout performances in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, continuing their impressive scoring form for their respective clubs.
Onuachu extended his remarkable goal streak to 10 consecutive matches in all competitions as Trabzonspor secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Caykur Rizespor.
Meanwhile, Osimhen netted his 170th career club goal as Galatasaray cruised to a convincing 3–0 win against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Onuachu’s decisive strike came six minutes into the second half, when he calmly finished a close-range opportunity following a precise cut-back from teammate Oleksandr Zubkov.
The goal also extended the Nigerian forward’s league scoring run to eight straight matches.
The feat places him in elite company at Trabzonspor, becoming the first player since Burak Yilmaz in 2011 to achieve such consistency in front of goal.
The 31-year-old striker has now scored 12 goals during his ongoing 10-match run across all competitions.
His overall tally for the season stands at 23 goals and two assists in 26 appearances, underlining his importance to Trabzonspor’s attack.
Onuachu currently leads the Turkish Super Lig scoring chart with 21 goals, five ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir’s Eldor Shomurodov.
With several matches still remaining in the campaign, Onuachu is also closing in on a historic club record.
He needs five more league goals to surpass the long-standing record of 25 goals in a single season for Trabzonspor, set by Georgian legend Shota Arveladze during the 1995/96 season.
At RAMS Park, Osimhen also played a key role in Galatasaray’s dominant victory over Basaksehir.
The Super Eagles striker helped create the opening goal with a clever decoy run that pulled defenders out of position, allowing Noa Lang to assist Wilfred Singo for the first goal of the match.
Osimhen later doubled Galatasaray’s advantage early in the second half with a clinical finish after a defensive lapse by Basaksehir.
The goal increased his season tally to 19 goals across all competitions, including 12 in the league.
It also marked his 170th career club goal in 293 appearances spanning stints with Royal Charleroi, Lille, Napoli and Galatasaray.
Galatasaray’s win strengthens their position at the top of the Super Lig standings as they continue their title push this season.
