National News – A new Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, has officially resumed duty in Yobe State, pledging to strengthen security and uphold professional policing across the state.
His appointment marks a leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force as he becomes the 34th CP to head the Yobe State Command.
Jibrin took over on April 9, 2026, succeeding Emmanuel Ado, who was recently promoted and redeployed.
The announcement was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed that the new CP has already begun overseeing operations in the state.
Jibrin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
Since joining the police force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent, he has served in multiple operational and administrative roles nationwide.
His experience includes positions as Divisional Police Officer, Tactical Commander in Delta State, and Area Commander in Ozoro, Onitsha, and Aba.
He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kaduna and Rivers states, as well as in the Force CID Abuja. Prior to this appointment, he was Commissioner of Police, Welfare, at Force Headquarters.
Jibrin assured residents of his commitment to peace, security, and effective policing through strategic partnerships and community trust-building.
