National News – The European Union Delegation to Nigeria has announced a six-month traineeship programme for young Nigerian graduates seeking experience in international relations and diplomacy.
The opportunity, published on April 10, 2026, is open to qualified candidates currently residing in Abuja, with the programme scheduled to begin in July 2026.
The traineeship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to diplomatic operations within the Political, Press and Information Section.
Successful applicants will gain insight into how the EU promotes its interests and values in Nigeria while contributing to policy-related tasks.
According to the delegation, trainees will assist in drafting reports on Nigeria’s internal political developments, human rights issues, economic conditions, and regional affairs.
They will also support communication activities, help organise meetings, prepare minutes, and assist with public diplomacy events, including visits from EU institutions.
To be eligible, applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree, have less than one year of post-graduation work experience, and must not have previously spent more than six weeks working with EU institutions.
Candidates are required to submit a Europass CV, a cover letter, and a completed application form via email before the May 8, 2026 deadline.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, after which successful trainees will receive a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.
However, participants will be responsible for their travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation costs.
The EU traineeship programme represents a valuable opportunity for Nigerian graduates to gain international exposure, develop professional skills, and build careers in diplomacy and global affairs.
