National News – Former Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Dr Yahaya Oloriegbe, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The declaration was made in Ilorin during a gathering of party members, community leaders, and supporters.

Oloriegbe said his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and a strong conviction to contribute to the continued development of the state.

He noted that his ambition was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to provide experienced, disciplined, and accountable leadership capable of addressing the state’s current challenges.

The former senator commended the role of the ruling party in stabilising governance in Kwara State but stressed that stability alone is not sufficient.

He said the state must now move beyond stability toward tangible economic and social progress.

According to him, sustainable development requires deliberate action and long-term planning.

Drawing from his background in medicine, Oloriegbe compared the condition of the state to that of a recovering patient, explaining that while initial progress may have been made, more structured efforts are needed for full recovery.

He said his leadership vision focuses on consolidating existing gains while addressing gaps in governance.

Oloriegbe unveiled a five-point agenda centred on strengthening security, improving healthcare delivery, boosting economic productivity, promoting social equity, and ensuring efficient governance.

He pledged to run a people-focused administration that prioritises accountability and measurable results.

The governorship hopeful also emphasised inclusiveness in governance, particularly for young people and women, noting that they remain critical to the future of the state.

He stressed that government must go beyond promises to create real opportunities and empowerment programmes.

Dr Oloriegbe previously served in the Ninth National Assembly between 2019 and 2023, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Health.

His entry into the race is expected to shape the political landscape in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 election.
