National News – Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission for removing the name of former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, describing the move as unlawful and politically biased.

Speaking during an interview on an international broadcast programme, Atiku accused the electoral body of misinterpreting the appellate court’s directive and overstepping its legal mandate.

He argued that Supreme Court precedents have consistently held that internal party matters should not be interfered with by external bodies.

Atiku further alleged that the move showed political bias and could be linked to efforts to secure the political advantage of the ruling party.

He maintained that such actions undermine Nigeria’s democracy and threaten free and fair elections.

The former presidential candidate also expressed concern about insecurity, warning that rising attacks, kidnappings, and terrorism continue to destabilise the country.

He claimed that poor security management is affecting citizens’ freedom of movement and business activities.

He additionally highlighted the impact of unemployment on national stability, arguing that high joblessness among youths is driving crime and social unrest.

He called on the government to encourage private-sector-led job creation and strengthen national security structures.

Atiku urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, insisting that the 2027 elections would offer a chance for citizens to elect credible leaders who can restore stability, prosperity, and confidence in democratic institutions.
