National News – Donald Trump has ordered a United States naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following failed nuclear negotiations with Iran.

The directive, announced on Sunday, April 12, 2026, comes after high-level talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, collapsed over Tehran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear programme.

The move signals a sharp escalation in tensions in the oil-rich Gulf region.

According to the US leader, the blockade will take immediate effect, with American naval forces instructed to stop any vessel attempting to enter or leave the critical shipping route.

Trump warned that any aggression from Iranian forces would be met with overwhelming military response.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global trade artery, handling roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil supply, making the situation highly sensitive for global markets.

The failed negotiations involved US Vice President JD Vance and an Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Despite what officials described as productive discussions, the talks ended without agreement.
