National News – The African Democratic Congress has released updated lists of its convention committees and subcommittees as part of preparations for its upcoming national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who explained that the move aims to strengthen coordination, ensure transparency, and guarantee a smooth process.
The convention is expected to take place amid ongoing internal disputes and heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the updated committee list was endorsed and signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo.
The party named former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, as chairman of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee, with former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, serving as deputy chairman.
These appointments are part of efforts to ensure effective planning and execution of the convention activities.
The development comes amid a leadership crisis within the party and a standoff with the Independent National Electoral Commission, which recently derecognised the leadership led by David Mark pending the outcome of ongoing court cases.
Notably, hearing dates for these cases coincide with the convention date, raising concerns about the legitimacy and timing of the event.
Despite these challenges, the ADC leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to proceeding with the convention and related congresses.
Party officials have urged committee members and stakeholders to carry out their duties diligently, emphasizing the importance of unity and credible processes.
The updated committee structure reflects the party’s strategy to reposition itself, resolve internal conflicts, and strengthen its organisational framework ahead of the next electoral cycle.
