National News – Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as his ongoing trial resumed over allegations brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The hearing took place in Kaduna amid heightened political tension and public attention.

El-Rufai, who is facing multiple charges including abuse of office, fraud, and alleged financial misconduct, arrived at the courthouse dressed in traditional attire.

He was seen moving through a crowded corridor filled with supporters, legal teams, and security personnel.

The case, which has drawn national interest, centers on allegations involving ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million, which prosecutors claim were mismanaged during his time in office.

Moments before entering the courtroom, El-Rufai was overheard discussing the upcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention scheduled for Tuesday.

In a brief exchange with an associate, he confirmed his awareness of the event, signaling his continued involvement in opposition politics despite his legal challenges.

The former governor is standing trial alongside an associate, Amadu Sule, with authorities alleging that both men conspired to commit fraud and confer undue advantage.

In a separate but related case before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, El-Rufai also faces a 10-count charge bordering on money laundering and abuse of office.

Following his return to Nigeria from Cairo, Egypt, in February 2026, El-Rufai has remained in and out of custody.

He was initially detained by the EFCC before being transferred to the ICPC.

He was temporarily released on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial but later returned to custody.

The court has fixed his bail hearing for April 14, coinciding with the ADC convention.

While the ADC claims the trial is politically motivated, the ruling All Progressives Congress has dismissed such allegations.
