National News – The Ogun State Police Command has warned residents against engaging in violent protests and unlawful gatherings, confirming multiple arrests linked to recent unrest in Sagamu.

The warning was issued on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during a press briefing where Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, spoke on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

Authorities stressed that while citizens have the right to protest, actions must remain lawful and not disrupt public peace.

According to the police, the incident began on April 7, 2026, when commercial motorcycle riders staged a protest in Sagamu, blocking the Oba Erinwole GRA Road and halting movement.

The demonstration escalated as protesters moved to key public facilities, including the Vehicle Inspection Office and TRACE office in Sotubo, eventually disrupting services at a local health centre.

The police described the protest as unlawful despite being driven by grievances.

Security operatives responded swiftly to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Following the operation, intelligence-led efforts led to the arrest of 10 key suspects directly linked to the disturbance, who have since been charged to court.

Further action under a coordinated security initiative, tagged “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” saw a major crackdown on criminal hotspots.

In the early hours of April 13, joint security teams carried out raids across targeted locations, resulting in the arrest of 146 additional suspects.

Police authorities confirmed that all individuals are currently undergoing screening, with those found culpable to face prosecution at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The Command reiterated its readiness to tackle threats to public safety and warned that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and channel grievances through peaceful and legal means.

Police also acknowledged the support of community leaders and local authorities in maintaining stability across Sagamu.
