National News – Former John Obi Mikel has criticised Arsenal for lacking creativity and leadership in the ongoing Premier League title race.
Speaking on his podcast, Mikel said the Gunners appear to have “run out of ideas” at a crucial stage of the season.
His comments came after Arsenal’s 2-1 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, April 13, 2026, at the Emirates Stadium in London.
Arsenal, who currently lead the table after 32 matches, now hold only a six-point advantage over Manchester City, who still have two outstanding games.
City boosted their title hopes with a dominant 3-0 victory against Chelsea FC on Sunday, tightening the race and increasing pressure on Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Mikel questioned the team’s attacking direction and individual responsibility, stating that no player has stepped up to influence games decisively.
He compared Arsenal’s approach to Manchester City’s fluid attacking system, highlighting players like Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva as examples of match-winners who excite fans and deliver results.
The former Chelsea FC midfielder also expressed concerns about Arteta’s tactical style, suggesting it may be limiting key creative players such as Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard.
According to Mikel, excessive structure and micromanagement could be restricting their natural flair and confidence on the pitch.
Despite the criticism, Mikel acknowledged that Arsenal still have a chance to secure their first league title since 2004.
He urged Arteta to motivate his squad and allow more attacking freedom in the remaining fixtures.
With six matches left, the title race remains wide open.
A decisive clash between Arsenal and Manchester City this weekend could determine who takes control and ultimately lifts the trophy.
