National News – President Bola Tinubu has pledged support for families of 11 security personnel killed in a bandit attack in Shanga Local Government Area (LGA), Kebbi State, while also condoling the state over the death of the House of Assembly Speaker.

The visit, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, showed solidarity after the attack.

Officials said the operatives were ambushed while responding to a distress call in Shanga, highlighting rising insecurity in the region and the risks faced by frontline security operatives.

Tinubu described the killings as barbaric and painful, promising full government support for bereaved families and affected communities.

He also extended condolences over Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman-Zuru, who died after medical evacuation abroad failed to save his life.

Governor Nasir Idris thanked the President, saying the visit demonstrated compassion and national unity during a difficult period.

The Emir of Zuru also commended state authorities for supporting victims’ families and communities affected by violence.

The attack reflects worsening banditry in Kebbi State, prompting renewed calls for stronger security response, improved intelligence coordination, and better protection of rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups.

Security sources said the personnel were intercepted by armed attackers while responding to emergency distress alerts, while authorities continue efforts to restore peace and stability across affected local government areas.
