National News – Ehume Omagwu Autonomous Community in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State has declared a firm resolve to expel suspected illicit drug dealers operating within the area, following rising concerns over youth drug abuse and insecurity linked to substance trafficking.
The traditional ruler explained that the presence of illicit drug vendors has contributed significantly to rising cases of youth addiction in the community, warning that immediate action is necessary to safeguard the future of young people.
He also emphasized that when access to harmful substances is restricted, young people can be redirected to education and vocational skills training that will help them become self-reliant and reduce crime rates.
He called on the Abia State Government to complete rural roads, improve healthcare facilities, and establish agro-processing industries to support farmers and reduce post-harvest losses.
He added that a new health centre is being constructed close to the central school, which is expected to improve access to basic healthcare services for residents of the community.
Community leaders further stressed that the combined strategy of education, infrastructure development, and strict enforcement against drug dealers is central to restoring peace and development in Ehume Omagwu.
Residents expressed support for the initiative, noting that tackling drug abuse will help reduce crime, improve school attendance, and create a safer environment for children and families.
The monarch reaffirmed commitment to sustained community action and partnership with government agencies to ensure long-term progress.
He reiterated that community vigilance, youth empowerment, and government collaboration remain key pillars in the fight against drug abuse in the area.
Authorities urged continued awareness campaigns to sustain the progress already recorded and discourage drug trafficking networks from returning.
