Doctor Dies After Delivering Triplets in Bayelsa

National News – Tragedy struck in Bayelsa State as a medical doctor, Dr Ere Ogbachi, died shortly after successfully giving birth to triplets.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, following complications that arose after delivery at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.

She was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, where she passed away in the early hours of the morning.

According to a family statement released by her brother, Meshack Sintei, the doctor initially had a successful delivery before her condition deteriorated.

She was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit after experiencing severe complications, including a rapid drop in oxygen saturation levels.

The family described her final moments as heartbreaking, noting that despite efforts by medical professionals, her health continued to decline.

Her oxygen levels reportedly fell drastically, and attempts to revive her proved unsuccessful.

She was pronounced dead at about 2:45 a.m., leaving behind her newborn triplets and a grieving family.

Dr Ogbachi was known for her dedication to healthcare and service.

She worked as a registrar at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital and was a member of the Nigerian Medical Association.

Her death has sparked grief among colleagues, friends, and the wider medical community.

The cause of the complications has not been officially confirmed, and hospital authorities are yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident.

However, the tragedy has raised concerns about maternal health risks, even among trained medical professionals.

Her family described her as a fighter who battled until the very end.

They also expressed gratitude for the support received during the difficult period, while mourning what they called the loss of a promising life and career.
