National News – Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria’s international goalkeeper, has dismissed reports linking him with a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following his departure from Chippa United in South Africa.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper clarified that his immediate focus is on securing a move abroad, as he weighs offers from clubs outside West Africa.

Nwabali, who has previously played for Go Round, Wikki Tourists, Enyimba, Lobi Stars and Katsina United, said the speculation does not reflect any concrete negotiations.

On April 16, 2026, Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali addressed growing rumours about a possible NPFL return after leaving South African side Chippa United in February.

Speaking from Nigeria, the Super Eagles number one explained that while fans and former players, including Peterside Idah, encouraged a homecoming, he is prioritising more competitive and financially stable leagues in Europe, North Africa, or South Africa.

He said West African leagues lack structure and strong sponsorship, influencing players’ decisions to move abroad.

Explaining how career decisions are shaped, Nwabali noted that better pay, sponsorship, and league organisation are key factors.

He stressed that players naturally aim for Europe or stronger African leagues where conditions are more professional.

The goalkeeper insisted he is not in a rush to choose his next club and will only sign when the right opportunity appears.

He also downplayed fears that his free-agent status could affect his Super Eagles selection, saying his performance history speaks for him.

Despite ongoing speculation linking him with clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Nwabali maintained that no official talks have been confirmed, describing the reports as mere rumours.

He reaffirmed his openness to global opportunities and willingness to adapt wherever he finds a suitable offer.

The former NPFL player remains focused on his career trajectory, leaving his next destination open as transfer discussions continue across multiple leagues.

Analysts say his situation reflects a broader trend among African goalkeepers seeking overseas careers.
