National News – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has called on residents to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, warning that supporting the ruling party would worsen hardship and stall development.
The appeal was made on Thursday in Umuahia during a press conference by the state PDP caretaker leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the party, caretaker committee chairman Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow said voters must remain vigilant and avoid what he described as “recycled politicians” attempting to rebrand under the APC.
He alleged that many APC promoters in the state were responsible for past underdevelopment and mismanagement, insisting that Abia should not “go backwards.”
The PDP leader stressed that the 2027 elections would determine the future of both Abia and Nigeria.
He urged political leaders across party lines to prioritise democracy over personal ambition and work together to resist what he called attempts to dominate the political space through undemocratic means.
Emeka-Yellow further appealed to opposition parties in Abia to collaborate with the PDP to prevent alleged infiltration and destabilisation by the APC.
He also called on party members to stay united and support the national leadership under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, adding that the party was repositioned to present credible candidates.
On the national level, the PDP criticised the APC-led Federal Government, accusing it of economic decline, rising inflation, unemployment, and worsening insecurity.
According to him, many Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities, while businesses continue to shut down.
He also alleged that insecurity—including banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism—has intensified, while democratic institutions have weakened.
He warned against any move to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, describing it as a serious threat to democracy.
The PDP concluded by urging Nigerians to reject the APC in 2027, insisting that only accountable and visionary leadership can address the country’s challenges and restore public trust.
